Barry is the Practice Leader for our Family Law team.
In the practice of Family Law, Barry has experience in:
- Advocating for applicants and respondents in domestic violence applications. He has also run a successful Domestic Violence appeal in the Queensland District Court[1]; and
- Litigating large and complex parenting and property matters including self-managed superfunds and businesses in the Federal Circuit Court, one of which ran for a week.
Barry completed a Bachelor of Business Management / Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland. He completed a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from QUT and was admitted to practice as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2002.
Prior to working at Vocare Law, Barry worked at a top-tier firm and as an in-house counsel for his own retail business which he established in 2004. Barry has extensive experience running a business and developing practical, innovative solutions to legal problems faced by small and medium sized businesses. Drawing on his own business experience, Barry brings a “big picture” understanding of business and how the practice of law integrates into the day-to-day running of a business.
He also practices in a wide range of areas including contract negotiation and disputes, employment law, Australian consumer law, commercial leases including disputes, franchises, NDIS, PPSR, Guardianship and Administration applications, estate litigation and Family Law. Barry is passionate about alternative dispute resolution and developing cost effective solutions for clients. He also enjoys advocacy and has appeared in both State and Federal Courts in a variety of matters.
Outside of practising law, Barry is actively involved in his local community. He is a leader at his local Church’s Children’s Ministry and a member of the P&C committee for a Brisbane inner west State School. Barry also enjoys mountain biking and spending time with family.
